Back to Broadcast

After a decade running my own business and a spell as Head of Development at Digital Gambit, I've joined Marquis to build software for the broadcast industry.

Back to Broadcast

Some news: I've joined Marquis, building software for the media and broadcast industry.

Where it started

Before Just A Guy Coding existed, I spent eight years at Softel in Pangbourne, writing C and C++ for broadcasters including the BBC, SVT, Turner and Nickelodeon: subtitling systems, Teletext, set-top boxes, video ingest and playback. The plumbing that gets pictures and words onto screens.

The years in between

Then came over a decade running my own show, first as a sole trader and then as a limited company, freelancing and running a small development agency under the Just A Guy Coding name. Websites, embedded dashboards for professional DAB radio receivers, desktop tools, cloud infrastructure, and more Bash scripts than I'd care to admit.

After that I joined Digital Gambit as Head of Development, leading the team and the technical direction.

Why Marquis

Marquis makes content workflow and media integration software: the tools that move, manage and archive media between systems from different manufacturers, for studios, broadcasters and post-production houses.

It's a wonderful challenge, and a welcome return to a product-driven environment, building software that studios and broadcasters rely on every day.

And the blog?

Just A Guy Coding isn't taking on new clients any more, but the blog is staying. In fact, it's just moved house: it now runs on AWS, built with Terraform, and I'll be writing up how it was done, including the parts that went wrong.

Thanks to everyone I've worked with over the years. Onwards!
